ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Recovery crews recovered two bodies Tuesday from the Missouri River near Omaha's N.P. Dodge Park (where three young people were swept away while fishing on April 15) and investigators have begun identifying the bodies (after another was found this past weekend). KFAB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new diamond diverge interchange on 192nd and Dodge in West Omaha began last week and has caused confusion—driver Lavetti Vegas said it feels like a maze. NDOT said the design will improve traffic flow and safety as the project, which started in March 2024, will finish in summer 2025—Jim Laughlin explained it cuts conflict points and improves sight lines. - ➤ Nebraska lawmakers advanced a proposal Tuesday to reduce the inheritance tax (27 to 10 vote) that will lower rates to 1% for children and 3% for other relatives while replacing lost county revenue with increased fees. The state, the only one that sends all of this tax money exclusively to counties (mainly for bridges and roads), is taking steps to balance its growing budget gap and keep residents from leaving.
