  • Permits reveal new shops and restaurants for the expanded Eppley terminal — UNMC will open an infectious disease training facility, and I-680 widening work along with Avenue One permits for major retailers and Ooh De Lally’s sober living house are in the works. CULTURE NEWS

  • RAAGA Omaha performed at the new Central Library yesterday in a Celebrate Omaha event that showcased classical and folk dance (with rhythmic percussion and high-energy fashion acts). The performance highlighted the library's commitment to welcome diverse communities.  KETV
  • Lincoln woman Candy Fellers recently learned that her great-aunt Doris Stevens, an Omaha suffragist, inspired the musical Suffs about the American suffrage movement.  Omaha World-Herald
  • The Joslyn Art Museum and UNO hosted a Hispanic Cultural Festival Sunday afternoon — UNO Spanish classes led activities where attendees painted clay cups and designed keychains while exploring Hispanic culture. Organizers plan to expand the event next year.  KETV

  • Rachael Brich was named Advisor of the Month by the Academic Advising Council for April at UNO’s Health Careers Resource Center. She received a certificate and gift card, and nominations for next month's award are now being accepted.  University of Nebraska Omaha

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents celebrated Earth Day at Elmwood Park over the weekend — additional events promoted environmental awareness across the metro.  WOWT
  • Two years ago — on April 26 — tornadoes tore through areas around Omaha, with 25 storms touching down. An EF-4 hit Elkhorn’s Ramblewood area near Bennington Lake while an EF-3 in Pottawattamie County caused one death and three injuries, marking the strongest outbreak in nearly a decade.  WOWT
  • Recent findings from the National Drought Mitigation Center show drought worsened across western and central Nebraska, with 56% of the area now in extreme conditions. Local landowners are bracing for a record wildfire season + decreased water for irrigation if rain remains scarce.  Nebraska Examiner

  • After an attempted attack (shots were fired) at the White House Correspondents Dinner Saturday night, Nebraska and Iowa lawmakers said swift Secret Service action kept the President and guests safe.  WOWT

  • Creighton volleyball will host defending national champion Texas A&M in a non-conference match this September at their home court. The game will mark an early season test for the Bluejays.  WOWT
  • Following their win over Butler yesterday, Creighton Bluejays baseball players and coaches shaved their heads + raised cancer awareness as part of the celebration. The act united sports success with a community message.  WOWT
