ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday evening, a body was found floating in the Missouri River near N.P. Dodge Park — authorities have not confirmed if it is one of the three Omaha students who went missing on April 15 while fishing.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Fire crews battled a tire fire that quickly spread to a car dealership on 20th and Nicholas Streets in North Omaha at 5:30 a.m. Saturday (officials said an investigation is underway) after a 911 caller warned that quick action may have prevented injuries (no injuries were reported).  WOWT
  • A building fire broke out near N 20th St. and Nicholas St. early Saturday morning—backup was requested a little before 6 a.m. as firefighters arrived quickly, and the cause remains under investigation.  KETV
  • A man was sent to Bergan Mercy in critical condition after a crash on 179th and Q street in Northwest Omaha Friday night around 10 p.m.—the Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the incident.  KETV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Warhorse Casino Omaha opened its expanded facility this week with 400 new slot machines, a smoker’s room, and two restaurants including Nebraska Ale House which serves Omaha Steaks angus ribeye and prime rib. The casino raised its workforce from 350 to 480 by hiring 130 additional workers — a move that is expected to boost operations.  Grow Omaha

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A UNL study found that groundwater levels across Nebraska declined an average of 0.52 feet between spring 2023 and spring 2024 — with eastern wells dropping over 10 feet in some cases due to persistent drought and increased irrigation pumping. The report noted that while there is still plenty of water available, long-term drought could affect supply for farmers and ranchers.  Omaha World-Herald
