  • Omaha hosts a busy weekend of free family events, including three Earth Day celebrations on Saturday at Heartwood Preserve, Lewis and Clark Landing, and Elmwood Park, plus film & comedy and garden festivities running through Sunday. Residents can enjoy hands-on exhibits, live shows and cultural performances downtown and at local venues.  WOWT
  • Omaha celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, Apr. 24 with a tree planting event at Prairie Lane Park near 120th and Center. Mayor John Ewing Jr. signed a proclamation while Prairie Lane Elementary students helped plant a tree called Fred to honor future generations.  KETV
  • Ralston's Cinderella Formal Gown Rental provided free prom gowns to 100 Omaha Public Schools students on Thursday morning as part of its fourth-year program at 7631 Main Street. Owner Terri Smieja said the donation gives students a chance to feel seen and ready for prom.  WOWT

  • Grain Weevil, a Nebraska company, is scaling up its robot technology — more than 100 units built — to protect farmers from hazardous grain bins. It plans to expand production and test its tech with NASA in simulated lunar environments.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • 7 Brew Coffee is planning a 646 sqft drive-thru at 16901 Polk Street near 168th & Harrison, adding a new site after its current location at 182nd & West Maple Road. The Arkansas-based chain will bring its coffee, tea & energy drinks to the area soon.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Big Snap Daddy, a giant snapping turtle at the Schramm Education Center near Gretna, was euthanized Monday after his health declined rapidly. Believed to be nearly 100 years old, he spent decades captivating visitors as a cherished local icon.  Flatwater Free Press
  • Backline Comedy Theatre in downtown Omaha is hosting improv classes and live shows soon, founder Dylan Rhode said. The venue aims to offer creative sessions (hands-on acting) that invite community members to sharpen their performance skills.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha awarded 16 grants on Friday to neighborhood groups to improve food access by investing nearly $55,000 in food pantries and community gardens. The funds will help organizations feed families and teach food growing skills.  WOWT
