  • A Millard West High School sophomore, Elise Cole, died from injuries after a crash near 176th and Q streets Monday night, Omaha police said, and the district crisis team supported students and families Tuesday.  KETV
  • Millard West students gathered Monday night to mourn a 16-year-old girl killed in a crash near the school campus — the tragic loss has deeply affected the West Omaha community.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Omaha’s War Horse Casino opened its expansion on Tuesday — adding more games, a smoking section, and a new Nebraska Ale House — and said plans for further growth will boost tax revenue and provide property tax relief.  KETV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 31-year-old woman was injured—she was cut—when a man tried to steal her car keys in North Omaha on Monday night.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Omaha police responded after 9 p.m. Monday near 16th St.—Arthur C. Storz Expy in North Omaha when a 31-year-old woman was cut by an unknown man trying to steal her keys and taken to the hospital in critical condition as the investigation continues.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The diverging diamond interchange at 192nd and West Dodge started operating today, and drivers reported confusion with shifting lanes and many construction signs while NDOT said traffic on Dodge remains unaffected. Lane restrictions on 192nd will continue through the summer — officials urge drivers to exercise caution as work progresses.  WOWT

HEALTH NEWS

  • UNMC and Nebraska Medicine have begun work on a new $2.19 billion health care, training and research facility on a 7.5-acre site once occupied by an elementary school—NU Regents recently approved the project’s next phase. The center will offer modern space for patient care and help train more than 200 health care professionals each year as part of the larger Project NExT.  Omaha World-Herald
