COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bankers Trust has opened a community meeting room at its new branch office building at 19202 Davenport Street— the room holds up to 75 people and is available for meetings, networking, and workshops Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Grow Omaha

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Omaha fire and police crews searched Tuesday evening for three teens who entered the Missouri River near NP Dodge Park—one teen managed to exit and was taken to a hospital while crews planned to resume the search Wednesday morning using boats, a drone, and sonar equipment.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Community members and the mayor celebrated Avenue Scholars Day on Tuesday—an event that connected local high school students with career mentors and business partnerships. The nonprofit, founded in 2007 and supporting 13 schools until Bellevue West joined as the 14th, saw 23-year-old Biye Belew credit the program with helping him dream big.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • John Ewing and Jean Stothert will face off in a mayoral debate hosted by First Alert 6 and the Omaha Press Club on Thursday at noon at the press club—both candidates advanced in the city primary and will compete ahead of the General Election scheduled for May 13.  WOWT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior Husker track stars Axelina Johansson and Tyus Wilson won indoor national titles in women’s shot put and men’s high jump at the NCAA meet in Virginia Beach—Johansson earned Nebraska’s first women’s indoor title in 20 years and Wilson became the first national champion for his coach. The athletes, one from Sweden and one from Kansas, set new record marks and now plan to compete in next meets later this season—Wilson will try to defend his title outdoors while Johansson looks to join international events.  Nebraska Public Media
