  • North Omaha neighbors gathered at an annual summit to explore new ways to boost homeownership, as local organizations have long worked to improve access to affordable housing in the area.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Benson High School will induct nine honored individuals into its Hall of Fame during a ceremony on April 17 at the school, recognizing their achievements + contributions to local education.  Omaha World-Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, April 11, heavy floodwaters swept through the Omaha metro area as the Army Corps of Engineers estimated nearly $12 million in damage.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials closed 84th Street southbound in La Vista between Harrison Street and City Centre Drive for emergency repairs after an inlet settled last night (contractors expect to reopen the lane by Monday evening if weather allows).  WOWT
  • The Nebraska Legislature passed LB 1165, known as the Grow the Good Life Act, and the Greater Omaha Chamber applauded its passage on Saturday, Apr. 11. The law will update economic tools by boosting performance-based incentives and job retention strategies to strengthen Nebraska’s competitiveness.  Grow Omaha

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Huskers began their 2026 season with a Spring Match win over Iowa State at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls Saturday afternoon - they won the sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-16 and 26-24 with strong plays from key team members.  WOWT
  • Friday night, the Supernovas hosted Volleyball After Dark with an 80-minute exhibition featuring UNK and Wayne State and a 3-1 loss to the Grand Rapids Rise. The team is in transition (Thomas Robson became interim head coach on April 7) and will host Dallas Pulse today at 4 p.m.  Grow Omaha
  • No. 19 Nebraska fell just short in its comeback attempt against No. 21 Oregon on Friday night—Sanderson led the team as the road game ended the series tie at one win each.  WOWT
  • Omaha Softball beat St. Thomas 10-2 in six innings Saturday with Ava Rongisch and Katherine Johnson driving key runs; the Mavericks have now won 10 consecutive games + will look to complete a series sweep today.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Omaha Baseball dropped a 13-1 decision to Oral Roberts at Tal Anderson Field after sophomore pitcher Tanner Foertsch kept opponents to one run in five innings until a 12-run bullpen meltdown ended the contest. The Mavericks will seek a rebound in their series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.  University of Nebraska Omaha
