- ➤ Today, Tina Cherica, CEO and president of the Omaha Zoo Foundation, gave KETV an exclusive tour of the Henry Doorly Zoo construction site for the Bill-and-Berniece-Grewcock Animal Hospital. The 32,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will replace the 30-year-old hospital and is expected to be completed by late fall. KETV

- ➤ On Thursday, lawmakers passed LB 390 by a 34 to 14 vote sending a bill to Governor Jim Pillen’s desk that would let parents, guardians, and school administrators view school library records. If signed, the law will require school boards to post an online catalog and set up alerts for book checkouts starting in the 2026 school year — a move aimed at boosting transparency. WOWT

- ➤ After a week of cuts, the Appropriations Committee fully restored funding for a program that will let the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services work with Iowa nonprofit SafeNetRx to give safe meds to low-income Nebraskans—reversing Governor Pillen's earlier proposal—with a 6-1 vote on Thursday afternoon. - ➤ The Douglas County Election Commission posted official results from Omaha’s April 1 primary on Friday. In the mayoral race, incumbent Jean Stothert earned 27,212 votes while Treasurer John Ewing Jr. got 24,582 votes, and in city council, Ben Gray leads District 2 with 1,720 votes and LaVonya Goodwin holds a 27-vote advantage over incumbent Juanita Johnson while in District 4 incumbent Ron Hug tallied 2,697 votes as Andrew Adams leads by 61 votes—automatic recount rules will apply for close margins. - ➤ The Omaha City Council approved several housing developments and rezoning proposals on March 25th — including a Planned Unit Development overlay at 5804 Corby Street where residents raised concerns over an aging sewer line. Developers agreed to cover some repair costs as the involved parties must resolve the sewer dispute privately, and approvals were also granted for a 261-unit multifamily complex near 8th and Douglas and a mixed-income housing initiative at 3030 Upland Parkway. - ➤ On April 10th, Nebraska lawmakers debated a bill that would bar minors from creating social media accounts without parental consent as Gov. Jim Pillen and Sen. Tanya Storer argued the measure would help verify age and protect youth while other members warned it might violate free speech rules. Lawmakers pointed to a similar law struck down in Arkansas and stressed the need to use taxpayer money wisely. WOWT
