- ➤ Omaha fire crews battled a house fire near 128th and Fort streets at 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon after the family and two dogs evacuated — preliminary findings indicate the fire started in the garage and spread to parts of the living room before crews controlled it. KETV

- ➤ Owners of Pepperwood Village at 156th and West Dodge Road plan to open a yet-to-be-named fast-food restaurant that will span 2,700 sq. ft. and include a drive-thru in the large parking lot east of the First Interstate Bank branch. - ➤ Historians with the State Historic Preservation Office are asking Nebraskans for stories of travel during the Jim Crow era using the Green Book—an effort that will help nominate two sites for the National Register of Historic Places. The two-year project partners with local museums and a school program to collect these memories. Nebraska Examiner
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two local school districts, Millard + Gretna, will switch to a 10-point grading scale this fall that sets 90% as an A and 60% as a passing grade; the change will simplify dual-enrollment grading and boost student GPAs. The districts will adopt letter grades and leave past grades unchanged. Omaha World-Herald
- ➤ A new program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln aims to train more attorneys to handle complex juvenile and family cases in rural areas—17 attorneys joined this year and the initiative plans to cover over 80% of counties by the end of 2025. Grants totaling $1.2 million will support the project pending review by the Board of Regents later this week. Omaha World-Herald
