- ➤ Ben Gray and LaVonya Goodwin will appear on the Dist. 2 ballots for City Council in May. Gray, who lost his seat in 2021, aims to bring his experience back to council while Goodwin has supported local business and infrastructure improvements in Omaha — both candidates have advanced after unofficial counts were reported. - ➤ An Omaha senator’s bill to create resource centers for youth at risk advanced in the Nebraska Legislature today. The proposal aims to provide support that helps steer young people away from jail. Omaha World-Herald
- ➤ City officials announced plans to build a new stadium and Butler-Gast YMCA to serve North Omaha; the stadium will host North High sports, include a press box, concessions, and storage areas—demolition and construction will begin this fall and both facilities will open in summer—and the project is funded by local and private foundations plus a state recovery grant with the current YMCA relocating to 34th and Ames. - ➤ A developer will renovate the former Aksarben Suites at 7270 Cedar Street into 197 studio units — the Omaha Planning Board will review a $3.5 million Tax Increment Financing request this week, and construction will start in July with completion expected by August 2026 as part of a $21 million project with rents of $1,195 and $1,395.
