CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, the Omaha metro hosts free Easter egg hunts at local churches + parks, free Easter Bunny photos, and the First Friday Art Walk downtown. The drive-in movie theater in Valley premieres its twin-screen season on Friday and Saturday.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Omaha Fire Department is recruiting new firefighters to address upcoming retirements and growing demand from new housing developments, with interested applicants needed to apply before May 11. The job offers a starting salary near 70,000 dollars and pension benefits.  WOWT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Veteran volleyball player Jordan Larson reflected on her storied career as she prepared for her final LOVB Nebraska home match today, speaking at a local press event in Omaha that drew loyal fans anticipating her farewell performance.  WOWT
  • Fred Hoiberg was named AP Coach of the Year on Friday & received the award in Indianapolis after a record 28-win season that led Nebraska to its first Sweet 16 appearance. He also extended his contract to remain with the Huskers through the 2031-32 season.  KETV
  • Omaha will see a tourism boost as Arrowhead Stadium will host the first World Cup match between Argentina and Algeria on June 16. City officials say security preparations are underway to welcome fans and ensure a safe game day.  WOWT
  • Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska men's basketball head coach, received the National Coach of the Year award from the Associated Press on Friday, Apr. 3, and became the 10th Big Ten coach to earn the honor since 1967.  WOWT
  • Creighton's Nik Graves led the Bluejays to an 82-69 CBC quarterfinals victory over Rutgers on Thursday night, scoring 28 points (25 in the second half) while teammates Jasen Green and Josh Dix also contributed key plays.  WOWT
  • Olivia Garrean, a Plattsmouth sophomore, won the state wrestling title in the 170-pound division on Saturday, April 4th, 2026, becoming the first autistic female wrestler to do so. She worked hard + aims to repeat her success next season.  WOWT
