CULTURE NEWS

  • A new local feature explores South Omaha’s evolution from an independent city to the vibrant neighborhood it is today. It highlights the community’s deep roots and invites residents to learn about the area’s enduring cultural legacy.  WOWT
  • The Maha music festival in downtown Omaha will reveal its 2026 lineup Monday at 6 p.m. during a news conference (lineup drops online at 7 p.m. with tickets on sale Friday at 10 a.m.) and the day-long event is set for Saturday, Aug. 8 at Heartland of America Park.  WOWT
  • International and local artists gathered at CHI Health Center over the weekend for the eighth annual Tattoo Arts Festival where they offered both temporary and permanent tattoos. The festival also showcased unique stage performances and hosted 275 vendors selling art, merchandise, and more.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The UNO Student Government Association elections will run from Apr. 6 to 8, with winners announced on Apr. 10. Acting Student Body President Drew Leisy said voting gives students a direct voice over campus policies + candidate debates will begin on Apr. 2.  The Gateway
  • Kelly Hughes, proposal development manager at UNO College of Information Science & Technology, is named Employee of the Month for March today. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A sinkhole at 67th and Pacific swallowed vehicles on Feb. 24 and closed three blocks until March 5, prompting UNO geology professors to question if a deteriorated storm sewer or water main break caused the collapse. City and MUD officials remain at odds over the findings.  The Gateway
  • Thirty-seven new firefighter recruits began training at the Fire Training Academy on Monday (a 13‑week program) to help meet rising call volumes amid a growing population. City leaders and fire officials have discussed bolstering staffing to ensure prompt emergency responses.  KETV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross in Nebraska and Iowa is asking everyone to donate blood or platelets from today until April 12 at designated local centers to keep a stable supply, and donors will receive an exclusive Red Cross x Life is Good T-shirt while supplies last.  KFAB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction at Eppley Airfield is over 50% complete, with a new central pavilion planned to add more gates, dining options + TSA checkpoints. A third walkover bridge will soon begin construction to ease travel, and the project is expected to finish in 2028.  WOWT
  • Two upscale build-to-rent neighborhoods are boosting available housing in west Omaha. Aerie Blue Sage at 204th & Blue Sage Parkway nears completion with 327 rental units while Aerie Heartwood Preserve near Millard North will offer its first single-family homes this August; both developments aim to ease the local housing shortage.  Grow Omaha

  • A new baseball facility project is underway and will offer updated diamond fields for inner-city youth in Omaha soon. Officials say the project is designed to bring more local sporting opportunities to the community.  WOWT
