COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over 1,000 young professionals attended the Omaha Chamber’s YP Summit—the nation’s largest conference for young professionals—at CHI Health Center on Friday.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flower Child plans to open its first Nebraska location in late June at 120 Regency Parkway on the north side of Regency Shopping Center (next to Bonefish Grill and Borsheims). The 5,002 sqft building will feature a covered outdoor patio for diners.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-nominated pop star Benson Boone will perform at CHI Health Center in Omaha on Sept. 1 as part of his 'Wanted Man' tour, and tickets go on presale April 1 at 11 a.m. + general sale starts April 3 at 11 a.m.  WOWT
  • Local artists were chosen from 242 applicants to create a new art collection at the Omaha Public Library, which will be open to the public on April 19. The collection represents a $1.3 million philanthropic investment funded entirely by private donations.  WOWT
  • Omaha’s Lauritzen Gardens placed third in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Botanical Garden — experts selected 20 finalists before public voting narrowed the field. The garden improved its ranking from fifth last year, reflecting its growing recognition.  Grow Omaha
  • The new Omaha Central Library will open on April 19 at 72nd and Dodge Streets and will showcase 16 pieces of art created for the building.  Omaha World-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said Eppley Airfield’s terminal expansion project (underway for over a year) is more than 50% complete and is expected to boost passenger services soon.  WOWT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mavericks beat St. Thomas 11-7 on Sunday as Henry Zipay had four hits, including his first home run of the season, which extended his 12-game hitting streak. The team will face South Dakota State starting April 2 after completing a seven-game road trip.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • LOVB Nebraska won its third game in a row with a sweep of Salt Lake on Saturday (scores were 25-22, 25-15, 25-18) at Baxter Arena and will host LOVB Houston on April 1 at 7 p.m. at the same venue.  KETV
  • Omaha Track and Field opened its outdoor season today at the Central Nebraska Challenge in Kearney – freshman Hope Riedel and teammates set strong personal records. The team will return to compete at the Husker Spring Kickoff in Lincoln on April 3-4.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Omaha Softball swept Kansas City with a 10-0 win in six innings on Sunday at Connie Claussen Field; shortstop Taylor Sedlacek hit key two-run home runs amid a 7-0 homestand that featured five shutouts, and the Mavericks will face North Dakota at 6 p.m. CT Thursday.  University of Nebraska Omaha
