- ➤ Police say that on Saturday a series of crashes into a construction pit near 31st and Q Street in South Omaha left 44-year-old Francisco Hernandez Martinez dead when his Ford Fusion struck the pit at 8:22 p.m.—a second crash at 10:28 p.m. involving a Nissan driver who initially fled led to his arrest on a DUI charge. - ➤ Two people were injured—one with life-threatening wounds—in a shooting near 52nd and Pinkney in North Omaha Tuesday morning, and police are searching for the gunman. WOWT
- ➤ An Omaha man charged in the shooting death of 19-year-old Dontayzhia Swift changed his plea to no contest to a lesser offense+all other charges were dropped+ and he will be sentenced on May 14. KETV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The I-480 westbound exit ramp to Dodge St closed at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 25 as part of the Missouri River Bridge construction project—drivers must use the marked detour via southbound 14th Street. The detour will be in effect for six weeks—and the bridge project is scheduled for completion by fall. KETV
- ➤ Omaha City Council President Pete Festersen said the North Saddle Creek corridor will get new sidewalks, bike lanes, lights and parking in a $5 million project with half the funds coming from private money—local business owners expect the updates to boost business and improve safety. Construction will begin next month and finish in the fall. WOWT
