- ➤ In Douglas County Court today, Eswin Mejia—accused of killing Sarah Root during a street race in south Omaha in 2016—was held on a 100-Million dollars bond with his preliminary hearing set for April 29th. KFAB

- ➤ Nebraska and Iowa are in Severe Weather Awareness Week from March 24-28, and today the focus is on explaining the difference between watches, which signal conditions that may lead to storms, and warnings that indicate severe weather is either occurring or imminent. The National Weather Service has established a risk scale from one to five and advises residents to use multiple alert methods—like weather radios and phone apps—to stay safe. 3 News Now
- ➤ Douglas and Sarpy counties have localized their severe weather siren systems in the Omaha metro area so that sirens sound only when hazards (such as baseball-sized hail, winds over 80 mph, tornadoes, or severe thunderstorms) occur. The changes—part of severe weather awareness week—will be in effect this season. KETV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On March 19th, a blizzard left 132,000 residents without power in Omaha—OPPD called it a 500-year ice event—and initial estimates show about $30 million in damage with nearly 1,200 poles needing replacement. The utility's 2025 Corporate Operating Plan will raise rates to fund more frequent tree trimming and extra staffing so power stays on. KETV
- ➤ City engineers are studying graphene, a concrete additive to strengthen roads, but experts say its high cost may limit its use to fix Omaha's potholes. Omaha Public Works will test a cheaper alternative — siloxane — on South 144th and Center Streets in upcoming repair projects. Omaha World-Herald
