ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Omaha police responded to a crash near 31st and Q streets Saturday night when a white Nissan drove into a construction zone pit and hit a black car already in the pit—one driver died while the white Nissan driver later returned and was arrested for DUI.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Summer Kitchen Café is expanding its Sterling Ridge location after filing a permit to double its space at 1110 Sterling Ridge Drive. The expansion will take over part of the previous Arc Bridal Boutique site and increase the restaurant area to 4,000 sq. ft.—the business also operates a second location in La Vista’s Southport area.  Grow Omaha

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old man from Omaha was sentenced to 87 years in prison for first-degree murder—he fatally shot a man last week.  Omaha World-Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new play titled 'By a Thread' opens later this month at the Jewish Community Center in Omaha to share the experiences of formerly incarcerated women and spark a discussion on prison reform—written by local playwright Kim Louise. The free performances will run March 29—30 to engage the community.  Nebraska Public Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Energy companies in Nebraska are still working to restore power after Wednesday’s damaging blizzard and about 7,000 customers in Dodge, Saunders and nearby counties remain without electricity. A social media update said the final rounds of restoration are complex — they may only restore a few customers soon.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha Police have launched CONNECT Omaha, a new public safety program that uses camera feeds from city and registered private sources—helping officers get a real-time view during events like the College World Series and theater shows. The program is managed at the headquarters' real time operations center by Lt. Allen Straub and aims to support quick responses while protecting privacy.  WOWT

  • Creighton's Jasen Green said he will lead the seniors and keep the Bluejays culture strong as the team looks ahead to the next season. He stressed unity and hard work as key parts of his plan to guide the team toward future success.  WOWT
  • Greg McDermott addressed Creighton's NCAA tournament loss to Auburn — explaining that the team will use the transfer portal to guide upcoming roster changes. He said the coach plans to add talent to strengthen the team’s chances for future success.  WOWT
