COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Omaha officially joined the AARP Network of Age Friendly States and Communities to improve livability for all ages. The city will gather survey responses from residents over 45 to shape its first ever five year Age Friendly Action Plan.  Grow Omaha
  • Over 500 volunteers from Treynor Community Schools helped at the Open Door Mission on Friday, Mar. 20 as students in grades 6 through 12 learned about homelessness and poverty; they served lunch, cleaned & organized, and assembled meals on the campus.  KETV
  • Completely KIDS held a groundbreaking ceremony at 2448 St. Mary’s Avenue for two new improvements — the Henry Davis Center and the reimagined Cindy Leiferman Nature Explore Classroom. Construction will progress through 2026, and the center will open in July 2027 to serve Omaha families.  Grow Omaha

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chipotle Mexican Grill plans to build its first Council Bluffs restaurant at the northeast corner of 30th plus West Broadway, replacing an existing building. The new 2,385 sqft location will feature a drive-thru Chipotlane plus indoor seating for 40 and an outdoor patio for 20 customers.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Omaha Performing Arts held a ribbon cutting this morning for the $108 million Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement at the Dick and Mary Holland Campus downtown — the 103,000 sqft facility will serve over 100,000 students, teachers and community members for rehearsals, workshops, classes and events.  Grow Omaha

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Omaha metro is set to experience record high spring temperatures with highs reaching 91°F tomorrow; very high to extreme fire danger is forecast this weekend (dry, light winds could affect outdoor plans).  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha Police will escort Army Master Sgt. Tietjens’ body to Forest Lawn Cemetery today after arriving at Eppley Airfield at 1:00 p.m. The motorcade route starts at Lindberg Drive plus follows Storz Expressway, Sorenson Parkway and 56th St to the cemetery entrance.  KFAB
  • The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission is waiting for the Legislature to pass LB 1235 & LB 1071 next week to allow fee-setting power and boost staff funding as it works to establish a regulated medical cannabis program. The commission also recently licensed its fourth cultivator.  Nebraska Examiner
  • During his first State of the City address on Friday, Mayor John Ewing Jr. proposed projects to improve Omaha parks, outlining plans to create better community recreation spaces. He emphasized that the new initiatives will boost local engagement.  WOWT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Most of the steel for Mutual of Omaha's headquarters tower downtown is in place and topping-out is set for next week as workers weld the final 677-foot crown above Farnam Street. Lanoha Real Estate with Pickard Chilton and JE Dunn will complete the 44-story tower — already the tallest under construction — late this year.  Grow Omaha

  • Nebraska Men's Basketball prepares to play Vanderbilt in the second round of the NCAA tournament today at 7:45 p.m. at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City + building on its historic win.  KFAB
