CULTURE NEWS

  • Omaha teens in The Pocket Architects represented Nebraska at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis after winning a local competition + they plan to record a live album in May or June as they prepare to reach larger venues.  KETV
  • Omaha Performing Arts announced the upcoming Broadway season for the Orpheum Theater with returning favorites and new productions such as The Phantom of the Opera, The Book of Mormon, and Hell’s Kitchen. Season tickets are available now.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha City Council unanimously approved a special use permit for the Ponca Tribe to build a new health and wellness center with community gathering and cultural space. The facility will serve tribe members, other Native Americans and non-Native residents.  WOWT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Following its February gala, UNO Dance Marathon announced a new partnership with Project Austin — a program supporting pediatric health — and raised over $2,600 at the event. They will reveal full fundraising numbers at the Omathon event on April 11.  The Gateway
  • Nebraska Humane Society will host a low-cost pet vaccination clinic with Dr. Susan Ostle from Caring For All Pets on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. in Omaha. Rabies vaccines cost $10, distemper and feline leukemia shots cost $15, and microchips cost $25 while pet licenses are due Sunday.  WOWT
  • Nebraska Medicine will build a $99.3 million clinic in midtown Omaha to serve as its main dermatology center while also offering internal medicine, outpatient gastrointestinal care, and behavioral health services.  Omaha World-Herald

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A 15-unit apartment building called 35Howard is under construction at 3513 Howard Street in the Blackstone District. First-time developers said zoning changes and a planned streetcar made the project possible and will complete the three-story building with studio, one- and two-bedroom units in May.  Grow Omaha
  • Construction begins on Indian Creek Village, a new residential development east of 192nd Street between Grand Avenue and Fort Street. The project includes 63 residential lots on 15.7 acres and will feature an entrance off Grand Avenue.  Grow Omaha

  • Nebraska’s men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg was named Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 26-5 record and record-setting conference wins; the Huskers will begin Big Ten Tournament play as the No-2 seed Friday at 5:30 p.m.  KFAB
  • Fred Hoiberg earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors after leading Nebraska to a record 26-5 season — the program’s best finish. The Huskers open Big Ten Tournament play Friday at 5:30 p.m. CDT.  KFAB
  • Union Omaha pitched a plan for a new $320 million stadium north of downtown with about 6,500 seats and aims to bring a women’s soccer team within five years as it seeks TI funding from City Council yesterday.  KETV
