COMMUNITY NEWS

  • During a Nebraska Iowa Men’s Basketball game on Mar. 8, Pinnacle Bank Arena & the University of Nebraska honored fallen soldiers during TV Timeout. The tribute recognized their sacrifice and united the community.  WOWT
  • The Visiting Nurse Association hosted its annual Art and Soup fundraiser at the Omaha Design Center from 2-4 p.m. Sunday + local artists and restaurants donated food and art as 100% of proceeds funded nursing services for homeless shelters in the metro.  KETV
  • Freedom Park along the Missouri River between downtown and the airport may be redeveloped into a campground with 100 R.V. sites, primitive camping spots, mobile restrooms and offices once the U.S. Army Corps approves the plan.  Grow Omaha

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A former Valmont CEO now serves as COO of Omaha-based iDvera, a tech startup that uses commercial sensors and math modeling of Earth’s magnetic field to verify GPS data while planning growth.  Omaha World-Herald
  • A team led by the Omaha Economic Development Corp and Greater Omaha Chamber bought a 67-acre site near 16th and Locust + a 13-acre site at 5906 Abbott Drive for nearly $30 million. It will use part of a $90 million grant to clean the sites and attract business tenants.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Omaha's Holland Campus will open the Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement on March 19 with space for classrooms, camps, and programs near 11th and Dodge. O‑pa President Joan Squires said the new venue evolved from over a decade of planning for arts education and community engagement.  KETV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Pillen and state lawmakers have asked for $3.5 million in the budget to help students who lost school choice funds after voters repealed the previous program. The money would go to the Labor Department as debate continues and educators stress the need to support gap students & their families.  Nebraska Examiner

SPORTS NEWS

  • Omaha Baseball scored four runs in the second inning after trailing early but Minnesota pulled ahead for a 6-4 win at US Bank Stadium in the Mavericks' final game of the Gopher Tournament. Jackson Trout recorded two RBI doubles for Minnesota.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Nebraska's men's basketball team tied the school record with an 84-75 win and secured the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The Huskers will play in the quarterfinals on March 13 at 5:30 p.m.  KETV
  • Creighton softball swept Seton Hall in a weekend series; Lily West reached 200 career hits on Friday, and the Jays will face Kansas City in a doubleheader on Tuesday.  KETV
  • Nebraska baseball swept Michigan State in a three-game weekend series to improve to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Huskers clinched the series with a run-rule win on Sunday (the decisive game) and will host North Dakota State Wednesday at 6 p.m.  KETV
  • On Saturday and Sunday, Nebraska softball swept Omaha in Lincoln with 4-1 and 10-2 wins, moving to 18-5 as Omaha fell to 14-6. Nebraska will host Michigan for its Big Ten opener on March 13 (5:30 p.m.).  KETV
