ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The warehouse near Dahlman Ave + L St, damaged in a three-alarm fire in January, was demolished by Omaha crews while fire officials continue investigating the incident.  WOWT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Omaha-based Scooter’s Coffee reached its 900-store milestone after adding 83 locations in 2025 — a 10 percent increase from the previous year. Nearly all outlets are owned and operated by local franchisees.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visit Nebraska announced Monday that the 2026 Passport program will offer 70 stops in 10 themed tours running from May 1 through Sept. 30 to help residents explore hidden gems and support local businesses.  WOWT
  • The North Omaha castle-like house that once provided safe shelter for Black travelers during Jim Crow is now on the National Register of Historic Places & stands as a reminder of its historical legacy.  Omaha World-Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Completely KIDS will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Mar. 18 at 2448 St. Mary’s Avenue downtown as part of its $28 million campaign to build the Henry Davis Center, a two-story building with eight classrooms that will expand access to education and mental health services for children and families.  Grow Omaha

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The 17-story Beam apartment and planned relocation of Children’s Museum at 8th & Douglas Street are on hold indefinitely while the city reimburses NuStyle Development for grading, sewer relocation and road work (and will build a parking garage regardless).  Grow Omaha
  • Douglas County Emergency Management launched a free multilingual alert app during Severe Weather Awareness Week. The ReachWell app (available in 130 languages) helps residents, including Spanish speakers, stay informed as severe weather moves in.  WOWT
  • Omaha Parks is asking residents through a survey to shape the future of Cryer Pool (nearly 60 years old) at 120th and West Center. The survey runs until the end of March and offers options like a playground, spray park, or basketball hoops.  WOWT
  • Omaha officials will review the Pacific sinkhole (to determine its cause) and plan repairs once the review is complete.  WOWT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amy Nissen was diagnosed with endometrial cancer after she thought her heavy period was normal. Teaming with her surgeon in a GSK campaign, she hopes her story inspires women to seek care early amid rising obesity concerns in Nebraska.  3 News Now
  • Angela Steiner-Hernandez, a kidney disease survivor, got a lifesaving kidney transplant at Nebraska Medicine and moved to Omaha where she now works as a nursing care coordinator. She left California after a long wait and celebrates Donate Life Month by giving back to her new community.  KETV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A new roller coaster (Fun-Plex's latest thrill) is set to debut this summer at the waterpark in Omaha, promising an extra ride of fun for local visitors.  WOWT

  • After defeating Maryland and USC last week, Nebraska men's basketball improved to a 25-4 record and earned a No. 9 ranking in the latest AP Top 25 released Monday. Today they face UCLA on the West Coast before hosting Iowa on Sunday for Senior Day.  KETV
  • Nebraska volleyball announced two spring matches. The Huskers will face Creighton at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha on April 17 at 7 p.m. and Iowa State at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls on April 11 at 1 p.m. (Ticket sales begin March 9 and March 6.)  KETV
