  • City Sprouts, a local nonprofit charity, is planning to build a utility barn at the southeast corner of 3rd & Jaynes Street north of Carter Lake. The $110,000, over 2,000 sqft structure will support its urban farming programming.  Grow Omaha

  • Sakura Ichiban Co. filed a building permit to remodel the interior at 1105 Harney Street for its new restaurant concept, following earlier reports of a second Yoshitomo location in Downtown Omaha.  Grow Omaha
  • Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel released his first 20-page shareholder letter Saturday, outlining 2025 financials with a net cash flow of $46 billion + over $370 billion in holdings. The letter reaffirms the company's long-term values and sets plans for reinvestment ahead of the May 2 shareholders meeting.  3 News Now

  • Johnny’s Café in Omaha was named a 2026 James Beard America’s Classics award winner for its timeless appeal and role as a community anchor at 4702 South 27th Street. It joins five other winners nationwide.  Grow Omaha

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNO faculty gathered Friday at the Thompson Alumni Center to plan a campus-wide push for data literacy — embedding assignments on chart analysis, data interpretation and clear communication to help students meet evolving job expectations.  The Gateway
  • Omaha Public Schools officials said an increase in teachers lowered average elementary class sizes to the smallest level in three years. They credited improved staffing levels for making classes more manageable.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Over 20 Nebraska robotics teams are competing in the First Tech Challenge at MCC today after months of preparing since September. The event will showcase new robot designs & give local students a chance to learn hands-on.  WOWT

  • NE Medicine plans a 4-story dermatology office building with a new pedestrian walkway and elevator lobby linking to an existing parking garage at the southeast corner of 42nd and Farnam Street following last year's street adjustments — a key expansion for its Midtown Campus.  Grow Omaha

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Huskers honored three seniors & beat Rutgers by 41 points on Saturday, Feb. 28. The win boosted community pride & energized local fans.  WOWT
  • Omaha Baseball lost the opener 5-2 but rallied for a 15-8 win in the second game Saturday at Wichita State. The team will face Nebraska next Tuesday afternoon in Lincoln.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Omaha will face fourth-seeded South Dakota at 6 p.m. CT Friday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls as the Mavericks, seeded fifth in the Summit League Championship, try to repeat their tournament win (game airs on Summit League Network and Midco Sports).  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Bennington and Gretna East high school girls basketball teams won their district titles, and NSAA state tournament brackets have been set to pave the way for upcoming state playoffs.  WOWT
  • Nebraska women's basketball wrapped up its regular season with a 93-52 win over Rutgers, finishing 18-11 overall and 7-11 in conference play (the team now prepares for the Big Ten Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse starting March 4).  KETV
