- ➤ Midwest Community Services is moving from its old site at (9507 Q Street) to a new 13,000 sqft facility at (9411 F Street); the grand opening is set for April 19. Grow Omaha

- ➤ UNO sociology major Lydia Okuku launched Crazy Unicorn from her dorm room to bring bold Y2K vintage style to Omaha — she plans to open a storefront in Old Market and start a social club called Whimsy with a second anniversary celebration this spring. University of Nebraska Omaha
- ➤ Interior build-out is underway on two restaurants in Aksarben Village that will open in May. Red Door Woodfired Grill will take over the former Spirit World store at 6680 Center Street and Breakfast Club from Des Moines will open at 2121 South 67th Street. Grow Omaha
- ➤ Tee Box, a national indoor golf franchise, will debut its first Nebraska location on March 6 in Miracle Hills (northwest of 114th and West Dodge Road) next to Funny Bone Comedy Club by offering golf simulators, a putting green, and a golf-focused fitness area in a 4,000 sqft space. Grow Omaha

- ➤ An Omaha-area woman remains stranded in Puerto Vallarta after cartel violence shut down flights during her parents’ wedding weekend, and her earliest flight is now scheduled for Thursday. WOWT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At Monday night's board meeting, Omaha Public Schools shared a five-year forecast showing a $50.6 million shortfall due to a state aid miscalculation for 2026-27 and said the levy will be raised to $1.05 (pending property valuations expected in late March or early April) to help stabilize staffing and programs. - ➤ Single mom Ava Rodriguez enrolled in Bellevue University’s public health program and became the first to move into its new nontraditional dorms — furnished two-bedroom apartments that let her care for her son while working as a math tutor. - ➤ Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. declared Feb. 23 as the annual UNMC Community Engagement Day on Monday morning to honor UNMC’s work in raising community health standards + earning the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, with University leaders joining the event. KETV
- ➤ Nebraska lawmakers voted on Thursday to cut $5 million from the Cultural Preservation Endowment Fund that supports arts and humanities, a change expected to reduce its annual investment income by roughly $300,000 (a move some critics say may risk donor trust) amid efforts to address a budget shortfall. - ➤ A Nebraska Legislature bill (LB 1222) would require insurance companies to cover FDA-approved Alzheimer’s treatments for over 35,000 Nebraskans with the disease. A public hearing is set for today at the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee at the Capitol (1:30 p.m.). 3 News Now
