COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Partners for Livable Omaha issued an RFP for the Mobile Stage, the Visiting Nurse Association holds Art & Soup on March 8, and vinNEBRASKA Foundation plans a wine tasting on April 11. Over 1,100 locals plunged into Lake Zorinsky on Feb. 19 to benefit Special Olympics Nebraska.  Grow Omaha

BUSINESS NEWS

  • CHI Health will begin renovating a vacant building on North 20th Street into a state-of-the-art central kitchen expected to open by fall 2027; the project will prepare nearly 3,000 meals daily for regional hospitals and create hundreds of jobs, revitalizing North Omaha.  WOWT
  • Fraser Stryker has signed a lease to move from Energy Plaza, where the firm operated for 65 years, to a new 4-story office at 1501 Mike Fahey in Builders District this year. The 120,000 sqft North Downtown building also hosts Noddle Companies, The Root Coworking, Fly Fitness and a planned sports bar.  Grow Omaha
  • Oto HiFi Lounge opens today at 4 p.m. in Aksarben Village. Omaha’s first hi-fi lounge and cocktail bar is housed in a 1,500 sqft ground-floor space at HDR’s headquarters building where guests can order small bites from Tiny’s Pizza & Nori.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Omaha Performing Arts will host the official opening of the Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement next month with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, Mar. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Dick & Mary Holland Campus and will continue with a free open house on Mar. 22 as well as a community day on April 11.  Grow Omaha
  • Notorious hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse will perform at The Admiral on April 13 in Omaha. Known for elaborate live shows + a unique style, the duo will offer a memorable performance for local fans.  KETV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After being disbanded in 2019, Sigma Epsilon returns to UNO campus this spring in partnership with the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement and the Interfraternity Council. The renewed chapter plans to host events and recruit students to offer a fresh fraternity experience.  The Gateway
  • The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture launched AgVantage to give students hands-on training through placements at farms, co-ops, or feedlots. Developed over six months from employer feedback, the program will complement NCTA's pivot technology training + summer internships.  WOWT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The First Alert 6 StormTracker is monitoring Omaha roads as snow continues to fall, with updates provided from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (latest at 5 p.m.)  WOWT
  • Drivers in the metro experienced difficult travel on Thursday, Feb. 19, when a First Alert 6 Weather Day brought heavy snow, strong wind, and slick roads that reduced visibility and slowed commutes.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said the $950 million Terminal Modernization Program at Eppley Airfield reached 50% completion at the end of January and will offer a continuous 22-gate concourse, expanded space, and new dining options when the central pavilion opens in 2027.  Grow Omaha

HEALTH NEWS

  • UNO Campus Recreation and Wellness hosted a self-care event in the Health — Kinesiology building on Feb. 18, offering free succulents, crafts, and snacks to support students' growth as part of their spring self-care week.  The Gateway

  • Creighton men’s basketball beat No. 5 Connecticut 91-84 last night as coach Greg McDermott set a record and Omaha softball recorded a 9-0 start, while arena soccer teams will host Community Celebration Night Saturday at Baxter Arena for teachers and health care workers.  Grow Omaha
