COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local businesses and residents along the streetcar construction route formed a group to ask for better communication on street closures and financial relief for affected businesses. The group urges officials to address these issues while construction continues.  Omaha World-Herald

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Drivers at Premier Midwest Beer and Beverage have struck for two weeks over contract disputes, leading local bars like Underwood Bar to boycott popular brands such as Miller, Coors and PBR. Some bars now receive shipments every other week as negotiations continue.  WOWT
  • Omaha native and renowned business leader Mike Yanney died at 92 on February 15. He was the founder and chairman emeritus (of Burlington Capital), a company valued at $4 billion that helped shape local business growth.  3 News Now
  • Nebraska customers like Samantha Nieman enjoy THC drinks at local cannabis store Plant’d Farma and its adjacent lounge The Garden, but the drinks face an uncertain future as market trends shift + decision-makers assess new industry standards.  Omaha World-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska’s January tax revenues beat forecasts by showing a 6.5% increase that added nearly $37 million, easing concerns over a $471 million budget deficit. The report (highlighting strong sales tax gains) precedes a Feb. 27 meeting that will update the state’s fiscal outlook.  WOWT

  • New plans to revitalize Oak View Mall were announced in January. The project aims to boost local business and enhance community spaces — more details will be shared in the coming months.  WOWT

  • Lance Waddles scored 21 points as Omaha beat Denver 83-76 on Sunday in a close basketball game (with Paul Djobet scoring 16 and Ja’Sean Glover adding 12) as the Mavericks took a decisive lead with 18 minutes left in the first half.  WOWT
  • No. 8 Nebraska rallied in the fourth inning to beat top-ranked Texas Tech 3-2 at the Clearwater Invitational on Sunday. Senior relief work by Frahm + timely hits by Camenzind and Farrell marked the program's second win over a No. 1 team this season.  WOWT
  • Omaha Softball beat FDU 18-2 on Sunday at the USD/UCSD tournament as Bailey Sample and Taylor Sedlacek drove in five runs each and pushed the team to a 9-0 record over two weekends. The team will head to Troy, Alabama for five games starting Friday.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • At the Healthy Hearts Run today, Kaden Remmers finished first in the mile race in a spirited local contest.  Omaha World-Herald
