  • A therapy dog and its handler spread Valentine's Day cheer by delivering candy, cards and flowers to doctors, nurses and patients at Omaha Hospital on Feb. 14. The gesture warmed hearts (bringing smiles throughout the hospital).  WOWT

  • AutoZone plans to take over the former CVS Pharmacy at 8315 West Center Road at the southeast corner of 84th and Center. The national auto parts retailer will add its 14th Omaha-area store once remodeling begins based on a new building permit.  Grow Omaha
  • Handmade Heaven, an artisan consignment shop, will relocate from its Bel Air Plaza site at 12100 West Center Road to Tiffany Place near the northwest corner of 132nd & West Center Road. It will remain open through Feb. 21 and reopen in the new space afterward.  Grow Omaha

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNO administrators and community partners celebrated the university earning its third consecutive Carnegie Elective Classification — a prestigious mark of community engagement — at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center on Feb. 12, while Chancellor Joanne LI, Ph.D., and other leaders emphasized its strong partnerships and focus on student leadership.  The Gateway
  • Dr. Houser discussed AI bias in hiring during a seminar at Mammel Hall on Feb. 13, where he presented research comparing ChatGPT-4o with HR professionals using CV evaluations. His study revealed that AI rated attractive candidates more favorably (with a narrower score range), prompting calls to address fairness in recruitment.  The Gateway

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction will soon start on The Radio, an affordable housing project set to transform a 15-acre single-family residence site at 56th & Kansas Avenue into 210 apartment units in eight 3-story buildings and a community building with a pool.  Grow Omaha
  • Construction is progressing on The Frame Apartments in North Downtown as a $44 million, 5-story project rises on a vacant lot west of the Ashton Building at 13th + Nicholas Street. The building will offer 146 rental units, a 10,000 sqft retail bay, and 65 covered parking stalls.  Grow Omaha

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, Villanova beat Creighton 80-69 with Duke Brennan scoring 21 points and taking 12 rebounds while Tyler Perkins added 17 points. Creighton’s Nik Graves led his team with 15 points and the Wildcats held a 41-27 lead at halftime.  WOWT
  • Nebraska men's basketball defeated Northwestern 68-49 on Saturday in Lincoln — the Huskers will travel to Iowa City on Tuesday at 8 p.m. to face the Hawkeyes.  KETV
  • Omaha Softball earned two shutouts Saturday in San Diego against FDU and Boise State to extend its season-opening win streak to eight and break its previous record; the Mavericks will finish play Sunday in a single game against the Knights.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Nebraska beat UCF 6-0 Saturday in Clearwater as Jordy Frahm hit two home runs and pitched a complete shutout. The Huskers will face No. 1 Texas Tech today at 5 p.m. to complete the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational.  KETV
