- ➤ The Douglas County Health Department will begin shutting down 101 businesses on Tuesday if food and drink permit renewal fees remain unpaid (business owners must renew promptly). Omaha World-Herald

- ➤ According to a BLS report, grocery prices in January rose 2.9% year-over-year, with costs for coffee, steak, and ground beef increasing while egg and tomato prices dropped—changes that will affect daily shopping in Omaha. KETV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Sarpy County Board heard plans to build a 20,000 sqft food pantry on the site of the former Bellevue Public Library near Offutt Air Force Base. Groundbreaking will begin in April or May and the $4.2M project is funded by private donations (no federal funds are used). Flatwater Free Press
- ➤ Nebraska has been left out of federal protections in the 2026 Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act — a move that leaves patients exposed to federal interference in state-approved medical cannabis programs. Medical marijuana advocates will host a virtual press briefing Monday at 11 a.m. to discuss the issue. WOWT
- ➤ Streetcar construction will expand next week as water main work on Harney Street forces closures of 17th and 18th streets starting Monday, Feb. 16; the four-phase project is expected to take three months. In early March, a future phase will close Harney completely for two weeks — traffic on Farnam between 29th and Turner will shift to the south lanes. KETV
