- ➤ Brittany Hall's dog Akoni escaped from Chalco Hills Vet Clinic Tuesday morning and was safely returned Wednesday afternoon after a community drone search through Griffin Drones Solutions & a Facebook alert. Andrew Tortorilla noted that using drones is becoming more common in Omaha pet searches. WOWT
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A house fire displaced a Bennington family after flames started in the garage near 156th and Ida around 11 p.m. on Wednesday — firefighters controlled the blaze with no injuries, and the Red Cross is assisting the family while authorities investigate the cause. KETV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Joslyn Castle and Gardens will host a medieval weekend this March with two events. On March 27, a 21+ event offers craft cocktails and bites from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and on March 28, families can enjoy owl presentations, artisan markets and live music from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. KETV
- ➤ Sculptors will transform 38,000 pounds of ice into art starting today at Heartwood Preserve during the Nebraska Snow Sculpting Championships. The event runs through Sunday and uses more than 120 ice blocks (each weighing 300 lbs) to showcase creativity, technique and a drive to sustain the sport. KETV

- ➤ Omaha’s metro reached over 1 million residents in 2024 largely from international migration even as domestic moves remain negative and many educated locals leave for better career opportunities—raising concerns about retaining talent. - ➤ Following LB258’s passage on Feb. 5, 2026, UNO students voiced concerns that the fixed 1.75% annual wage increase and $13.50 training wage for young workers could lower early earnings amid rising living costs — many said it might affect their job choices. The Gateway
- ➤ The National Weather Service and local emergency management will restart free in-person storm spotter training next week beginning Feb. 18 at Columbus Fire Station - sessions are planned across the spring and live virtual classes will soon be announced to help residents learn to report severe weather. - ➤ An educational kiosk at the State Capitol highlighting rangelands is on display until Feb. 20 while the exhibit opens today at Morrill Hall and runs until May 1. The display explains rangelands’ role in supporting the beef cattle industry & providing natural wildlife habitat. WOWT

- ➤ Metro Transit is proposing to expand service on eight bus routes with extra evening and weekend buses, marking its biggest increase in 15 years. Public meetings include Saturday, Feb. 14 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at Hardy Coffee at The Highlander to gather rider input. 3 News Now
