- ➤ Community members can volunteer to help host a Super Bowl watch party on Sunday, Feb. 8 in Omaha if they skip the game; The Hope Center for Kids needs help from 4 to 11 p.m. at 2220 N 20th St and Siena Francis House from 5 to 7:30 p.m. WOWT
- ➤ Omaha Dog Bar hosted a pajama party for dogs and owners on Feb. 6 with a hot cocoa bar, treats, music and a best pajamas contest. Owner Leah Thrasher said the event shows a growing trend and more pet gatherings for Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Days are planned. KETV
- ➤ The Omaha Streetcar Future Riders Passport Program invites locals and visitors to explore downtown, Blackstone District and Midtown Crossing until March 31. - ➤ The Bubbly Tart has permanently closed its Midtown bakery at 3020 Leavenworth Street after a planned sale did not move forward + the local shop was known for its macarons, champagne service and tea parties. Grow Omaha
- ➤ Found Vintage Market in Benson will close after more than a decade because its building is being sold—prompting owner Laci Mulick to liquidate inventory on discounted offers. Local residents worry about declining retail options in the changing district. WOWT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Broadview Hotel in North Omaha, built in 1909 and once listed in The Negro Motorist Green Book, was recognized last year as a historical site (located at 20th and Florence) honoring its role as a safe haven for Black travelers; it now houses four African American families. KETV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Nebraska State Board of Education postponed votes on a learning plan for 11 Omaha area districts plus on grants for early childhood data and mental health support. The board will revisit the proposals at a meeting planned for March 6. Nebraska Public Media
- ➤ UNMC and UNO launched Zoodemic, a free mobile app that turns public health education into an interactive game for middle and high school students. The app (available on Apple App Store and Google Play) teaches about germs and outbreak prevention. University of Nebraska Omaha
- ➤ The Rod Rhoden Foundation has pledged $1 million to Metropolitan Community College for a new auto tech scholarship that will support over 45 students a year. The scholarship honors Rod Rhoden’s legacy & opens access for certificate and associate degree programs. Grow Omaha

- ➤ Omaha’s Mavericks softball team was picked as the preseason favorite in the Summit League Coaches Poll after earning five first-place votes and retaining its three-time defending champion status.
