BUSINESS NEWS

  • Borsheims will start a multimillion-dollar renovation after Berkshire Hathaway’s Annual Shareholders meeting in May — the store will remain open during the project to serve local shoppers.  Omaha World-Herald
  • Borsheims is set to renovate its Regency Shopping Center store after Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting this May. The 20,000 sqft remodel will create an open-concept space featuring extra seating & a luxury salon while the store remains open.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, new signs featuring influential Black figures are on display at Gene Leahy Mall to honor the 100th anniversary of Black History Month (18 displays along Arches Playground). They will remain through the end of the month.  KETV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority will hold a topping-out ceremony on Feb. 16 at CHI Health Center as its $200 million expansion adds a 90,000 sqft addition (featuring floor-to-ceiling glass) that increases meeting rooms from 16 to 41 and upgrades the center's space to 420,000 sqft.  Grow Omaha

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rod Rhoden, a Glenwood native, has pledged $1M through his Foundation to fund nearly 50 annual MCC Automotive Technology scholarships for eligible students; the donation aims to ease financial barriers amid projected growth with 70,000 new technician openings by 2034.  3 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A $103 million development near Saddle Creek Road was approved with over $9 million in TIF financing to build more than 220 market-rate housing units plus commercial spaces, and the project is set to unfold in five phases with completion by 2030 (local residents expressed concerns about affordable housing).  KETV
  • Omaha City Council approved plans for the Dundee property today—residents voiced concerns that developers may not fully address neighborhood requests.  WOWT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Board of Regents approved a deal in January to buy Clarkson Regional’s share in Nebraska Medicine for $500 million plus $300 million in real estate, with Clarkson Regional set to donate $200 million to UNMC’s Project Health. The nonprofit will continue operating separately, and patients will see no changes in care.  Flatwater Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska reportedly named Brett Maher as special teams coordinator and Nick Humphrey as co-special teams coordinator to replace Mike Ekeler, who left for USC (Feb. 3). Coach Matt Rhule confirmed the plan for the transition.  KETV
  • Luke Gifford, a Lincoln native & San Francisco 49ers linebacker, is feeling emotional after being selected for the Pro Bowl. The NFL veteran said he will focus on skills competitions rather than flag football at the upcoming event.  WOWT
  • Omaha Men's Basketball junior guard Paul Djobet was named Summit League Peak Performer of the Week after posting two double-doubles with a career-high 27 points against Denver, averaging 21.5 ppg + 10.5 rpg on Tuesday. The Mavericks will head north to face North Dakota on Feb. 5 and North Dakota State on Feb. 7.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Omaha Swimming and Diving sophomore Owen Kipp earned Summit League Kwik Star Peak Diver of the Week on Tuesday after his performance at the Coyote Invite in Sioux Falls, marking his second recognition this season. The Mavericks will compete at the Omaha Dive Invite Feb. 6-7 at H&K Pool.  University of Nebraska Omaha
