  • The Omaha fire department honored a sixth grader today who designed a sticker for its facility dog — the student’s creative work is celebrated by local firefighters.  Omaha World-Herald

  • Marigold’s Mercantile opened today in the former Book Nook space at 2115 South 67th Street in Aksarben Village (next to Godfather’s Pizza), offering curated home goods, pantry staples and locally made products.  Grow Omaha

CULTURE NEWS

  • Batsu! (America's live Japanese game show experience) will perform at the Harlan Music Club in Omaha tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., with cast members Brian and Miu hosting comedy challenges that blend Japanese and American culture.  KETV
  • Omaha Performing Arts presents a choose-what-you-pay drumming workshop led by Cirque Kalabanté on February 3 at The Venue at Highlander. The group also offers BATSU, an interactive Japanese game show running January 29-31 in the city.  3 News Now

  • Haley Spreitzer, a Millard teacher, received a $500 check from the 3 News Now Pay It Forward Campaign through First Interstate Bank to help supply her classroom as she begins teaching first grade—nominated by Emma Decker, she has supported her students for two years.  3 News Now
  • Governor Jim Pillen declared this week as Nebraska School Choice Week by signing a proclamation yesterday. His executive order from last September set the stage for expanding school choice scholarships.  KIOS
  • Bellevue teachers Malynda Olson and Theresa Grove received a $500 check from the 3 News Now Pay It Forward Campaign with First Interstate Bank today at Bellevue West High School — the funds will purchase classroom supplies.  3 News Now
  • Karrie Seibel, a Skinner Elementary teacher in Omaha, received a $500 check from the 3 News Now Pay It Forward Campaign with First Interstate Bank & the award honors her commitment to students.  3 News Now
  • Omaha teacher Tom Peterson received a $500 check from First Interstate Bank’s Pay It Forward Campaign to celebrate his 25 years of teaching at Boys Town and his commitment to students.  3 News Now
  • UNO Career Services offered free headshots for students on Jan. 28 at room 113 in the Eppley Administration Building, with photos emailed to participants. Monthly pop-ups will also take place with sessions on Feb. 11 (10 a.m. to noon), Mar. 10 (10 a.m. to noon) and Apr. 23 (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.).  The Gateway
