COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nebraska Game and Parks launched a fitness challenge on Monday, Jan. 26 and invites residents to log 250 miles in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Local participants will join in at various outdoor events in the coming weeks.  WOWT
  • Omaha's Little Italy youth joined the Little Hearts Big Roots art project as Pine Elementary students presented artwork Monday that will form the basis for mural workshops in sister city Carlentini (Sicily). Local artist Lita de la Guardia will leave soon to develop the project and seek sponsorships.  Nebraska Examiner
  • At Eppley Airfield, a security sweep Monday morning near Abbott Drive and East Fort Street led to a brief evacuation while buses were provided to keep passengers warm (the airport confirmed an all-clear 47 minutes later).  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Anita Lee was named Employee of the Month at UNO for her leadership and commitment to enriching student experiences. The honor, announced (Jan. 26), included a certificate, tumbler, cash prize, sports tickets, and a reserved parking space.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • UNO faculty are using ChatGPT EDU to boost teaching and research today. Craig Maher (from the School of Public Administration) explained how the tool helps refine academic materials with support from the AI Learning Lab.  University of Nebraska Omaha
  • Dr. Jason D. Coleman, associate dean at UNO’s College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, has been elected president of the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and will serve in 2026. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Omaha Eppley Airport returned to normal around 9:20 a.m. Monday after a security threat led to a temporary terminal evacuation, and officials from Eppley Police, Omaha Police, TSA and FBI cleared the area following a security sweep.  KFAB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • NuStyle Development is advancing a 17-story high-rise apartment project at the 6-acre site at the northeast corner of 8th and Douglas, with 261 residential units and a 5-story enclosed parking garage. Construction may start in 2027 and the building is set to open in spring 2028 (pending final council approval).  Grow Omaha
