COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ralston fountain outside City Hall uses geothermal design to keep flowing in winter & form unique ice sculptures. Installed last year by Zach's Pond Service as part of a downtown improvement project begun in 2025, the 20-by-20-ft feature offers residents a striking display.  3 News Now
  • Goodwill Omaha now gives donated blankets and coats to nonprofits to help homeless residents stay warm in South Omaha as temperatures drop. Janelle Peterson, COO, said the program uses 16 local stores to quickly deliver items to groups like Threshold and the Stephen Center, serving those at risk of frostbite.  WOWT
  • The Shine the Light on Hunger Campaign has raised a record $4.95 million and collected 216,237 pounds of food to support over 15 million meals for neighbors — donations come through orange bins at local sites and go to Food Back for the Heartland.  Grow Omaha

  • Data Axle leased a 9,168 sqft office space at 11340 Blondo Street, confirmed by Ryan Ellis (CEO of PJ Morgan Real Estate) who led the lease talks, and the Omaha-based firm, once known as Infogroup, now operates a modern workspace in the city.  Grow Omaha

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Nebraska’s federally measured GDP grew 5% in Q3 2025 — the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis said it tied with Iowa and Vermont for the 13th-highest growth — while tax receipts dropped about $15 million. Lawmakers are adjusting the two-year state budget to cover a $471 million deficit.  Nebraska Examiner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Metropolitan Community College students won the Mopar CAP Bracket Challenge in Kansas City, excelling in written and hands-on tests against nearly 100 schools. As champions, they will host the traveling trophy (a Dodge Challenger Demon and Mac Tools cart) and plan to form a new team.  KETV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A live map (for outage updates) shows that a bitter cold snap may cause power outages statewide as subzero wind chills and light snow affect homes today and through Monday. Residents are advised to check live updates for current conditions.  KETV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Don Bacon announced that Eppley Airfield will receive an extra $7 million in federal funding to modernize its terminal, boosting contributions to $101 million—covering over one-tenth of the cost and marking the first update in 40 years.  KETV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Delilah (pet of the week) is available for adoption at the Nebraska Humane Society and loves treats, toys, and group play. The shelter advises that she may thrive best in a home with another dog who can match her energy.  KETV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • La Vista City Council reviewed a plan this week for a 32-acre greenfield site in Southport West near Westport Parkway & Giles Road; the mixed-use project will include a 41,000 sqft indoor recreation facility, restaurant, dog park, brewery, multi-family housing and a TopGolf-style venue along Interstate 80.  Grow Omaha

SPORTS NEWS

  • The NCAA approved a proposal Friday for Division I programs to add up to two commercial logos on uniforms and one on equipment for non-championship play starting Aug. 1 + Nebraska schools may benefit as the change aims to boost revenue and support student-athletes.  KETV
